Hey sis!
I don’t know about you but whenever I’m reading a good book, I spend so much time wanting to talk about the book with other well-read women.
There’s no fun in just reading a book and moving on to the next with no discussion.
I can’t do that.
It’s funny, looking back I can draw my path through books. Does anyone remember reading “The Coldest Winter Ever’ by Sister Souljah or “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison? I still remember the feeling I received from those books.
This month girl have I got a book for you! I read this book last month and with a suggestion from one of the book club members, I decided to make this our June Pick.
The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray
The Butler family has had their share of trials—as sisters Althea, Viola, and Lillian can attest—but nothing prepared them for the literal trial that will turn their lives upside down.
Althea, the eldest sister and substitute matriarch, is a force to be reckoned with and her younger sisters have alternately appreciated and chafed at her strong will. They are as stunned as the rest of the small community when she and her husband Proctor are arrested, and in a heartbeat, the family goes from one of the most respected in town to utter disgrace. The worst part is, not even her sisters are sure exactly what happened.
This book is such a beautiful look at family and the bonds that whole them together.
We meet once a month in Toronto, Canada. Join the mailing list for all the details, but we also connect virtually.
And this month, June for the first time ever we’ll be hosting our first Instagram Live Book Club Meetup that will take place on Saturday, June 29th at 1pm.
We hope to see you there.
