Every month as I compile this list, it never ceases to amaze me how many truly great diverse books hit shelves throughout the month. And while I try my hardest to include all the diverse books coming out for the month I know I don’t know ALL of them. So STOP coming for me if I miss one.
Anyways, back to business…
I don’t know about you but every month I’m adding to my list, and whether you’re a book hoarder, like me, or looking for some early holiday gifts this month’s list has so many truly interesting, diverse reads. From a fun Romcom to a beautiful poetry collection, there’s a little something for everyone.
Here are the top 5 Books on my List this month
1. Excuse Me as I Kiss the Sky by Rudy Francisco
This collection is first on my radar for a reason. I’m obsessed with the way Francisco weaves words into such beauty. Excuse Me As I Kiss The Sky is the third installment of the Rudy Francisco poetry collection. With every book, the author utilizes various tools and methods to excavate his experiences and find poetry in everyday things. Rudy believes that poetry can be found in our immediate surroundings at any given moment and poignantly includes this idea as the foundation of his work.
2. Next-Door Nemesis by Alexa Martin
I will admit I slept on Martin for a few years but when I eventually sat down and read one of her books I was instantly hooked and set out to read ALL of them, which I have. Alexa Martin can conjure up any story and I would probably read it. She has mastered cozy romances and I’m here for it. This one follows one of my favourite tropes, enemies to lovers, combined with neighbors from hell and combines it.
3. Eyeliner: A Cultural History by Zahra Hankir
I’m so intrigued by this one, from the acclaimed editor of Our Women on the Ground comes a dazzling exploration of the intersections of beauty and power around the globe, told through the lens of an iconic cosmetic.
4. Courting Samira by Amal Awad
Set in Sydney, Australia, Courting Samira is a charming, big-hearted rom-com about a twenty-seven-year-old Palestinian woman who finds herself in an unexpected love triangle—a sparkling ode to meddling best friends, traditional courtship, The Princess Bride, and, of course, the possibility of love.
5. The Upcycled Self: A Memoir on the Art of Becoming Who We Are by Tariq Trotter
Tariq Trotter—better known as Black Thought—is the platinum-selling, Grammy-winning co-founder of The Roots and one of the most exhilaratingly skillful and profound rappers our culture has ever produced, but his life began with tragedy and hardships. Broken up into vignettes, the memoir looks at the four powerful relationships that shaped Black Thought as he was growing up and on through to adulthood.
Those are at the top of my list. Here are some additional books coming out this month. Let me know which ones you’re adding to your TBR list.
