It’s time to diversify and decolonize your reading this summer!
Although the TBGR Book Club is on break for the summer doesn’t mean that the reading has to stop. Join the TBGR Summer Reading Challenge, and read at your OWN pace.
The Summer Reading Challenge was made to of course challenge you but also help you decolonize and diversify your reading.
Colonialist perspectives have dominated, and continue to dominate, social, political and literary discourses everywhere. So here’s why you should decolonize your bookshelf: because the story told by the dominant narrative is simply not complete. These prompts will aid you in finding new stories and perspectives.
The Details:
The challenge runs from July 1st to August 27th. Winners will be chosen on Friday, Sept 2nd, 2023.
Step 1: To participate download the Summer Reading Challenge Prompt Card and the reading log sheet.
Step 2: Keep Track of the books you read on the log. (Please feel free to share your progress on social media using #ThisBlackGirlReads hashtag or post in the private This Black Girl Reads Community on Facebook).
Step 3: Submit a photo of your reading log by August 31st for the draw. The more books you read each month, the greater chance you have to win a prize! The winners will receive a basket of bookish prizes and swag, and a gift card to a bookseller of their choice.
Happy Reading!
