“You were not just born to center your entire existence on work and labor. You were born to heal, to grow, to be of service to yourself and community, to practice, to experiment, to create, to have space, to dream, and to connect.”
Welcome BACK to the This Black Girl Reads Book Club: Season 7!!!
Season 7 features a diverse collection of books by incredible Black authors, each bringing their unique perspectives on life, love, and the complexities of Black womanhood. Over the next few months, we’ll read, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations that will challenge us to think critically and live more fully.
As always, our sessions are designed to be inclusive, safe, and supportive spaces where Black women of all ages and backgrounds can come together, share their stories, and learn from one another. Expect a mix of in-person discussions, online forums, and engaging activities that go beyond the books we read.
September Book of the Month: Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey
Synopsis: Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey is a revolutionary call to embrace rest as an act of resistance against the relentless pace of modern life, especially for Black women. Hersey, the founder of The Nap Ministry, argues that rest is a radical tool for reclaiming our time, bodies, and well-being. This manifesto challenges the grind culture and advocates for rest as a pathway to liberation and healing.
Trigger Warnings: Discussions of Burnout, Systemic Oppression, Mental Health Challenges
Our discussion will take place via Google Meet on September 27th, 2024 at 7 pm Eastern.
